Marikina City is surrounded by mountain ranger and a river and it is located in National Capital Region which can be found across the eastern border of Metro Manila. The City is bounded by Quezon City in the west; Pasig and Cainta in the south; San Mateo in the north; and Antipolo in the east. During the Philippine Revolution, Marikina City was known as the provincial capital of the province of Manila from 1898 to 1899 and became one of the municipalities of Rizal province. Today, Marikina City is now a municipality and a highly urbanized city. Furthermore, the place is considered as one of the richest local government unit in the Philippines. Even though the place is a first class highly urbanized city, the place still managed to keep their history, heritage, nature and traditions. The total population of Marikina City is more than 450,000. The people in the city use Tagalog and English language. Since Marikina is located in low-lying areas, they are usually exposed to flooding and one of their major threat is earthquake. Despite all of this, Marikina City definitely has a lot to offer. The City is considered as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the Philippines where a bike lane has been established. With that being said, people can easily go to the mall, school and other places in Marikina by just using a bike. The City is also known as the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines” since they are the largest producers of shoes in the country. The shoes are affordable and it has an excellent quality. Marikina City has a lot of hidden gems and wonderful sites that is why the place is looking forward to meeting you!
